DECEASED PHYSICIANS NAMED WOMACK

The reason you see for approximations of date of death is that the index runs thru Dec 21, 1929. So, those so listed would have died after 1929. At the end of this listing, I am starting to add bios. Some of these are for Docs not listed here. My thanks to those who have submitted this info. BIOS SUBMITTED

The Calvacade of Jackson County By: I. T. Taylor, B. Lit., B. A., LL. D. Edna, Texas Author of My Reminiscensesand Co-Author with his Daughter, Nawona A. Taylor of Taylor's Texas History Chart Centennial Series The Naylor Company 918 North St. Mary's Street, San Antonio, Texas I found the following biography of Dr. Jesse Lee Womack in the above mentioned book at the Texas State Library, Archives Division, Austin, Texas. Rather ironic that he would become a doctor. He had two brothers and mother who died within a two week period in 1884 in Wise County, Texas. Some have attributed the deaths to measles but I wonder about that. He was the son of John Abner Womack and Elizabeth Boykin who moved from Smith County, Mississippi to Wise County, Texas prior to the 1880 Census. Dr. J. L. Womack A Patriot, Pioneer, Doctor, a World War Veteran Dr. Jesse Lee Womack was born August 28th, 1866 in Raleigh, Mississippi. He graduated from the Louisville Medical College in 1890 and won class honors. Dr. Jesse Lee Womack marrid Anna Rogers on March 5, 1891. To this union was born the following three children: Mrs. W. R. Farquhar, Miss Exa Womack, and Jesse Lee Womack Jr. Mrs Womack died in 1900. On June 6, 1901, Dr. Womack married Texana Rogers. To this second union was born two children, who are Mrs. Alonzo Bego and Willie Womack. Dr. Womack moved to Jackson County with his family, and for a number of years he owned a drug store at Red Bluff and practiced his profession. In 1900 he moved to Oklahoma where he practiced medicne. Moving back to Jackson County in 1911, he practiced medicne at Lolita. Later he moved to Edna where he continued the practice of his profession. He stood high in medical science and was considered very kind and sympathetic. He was a true patriot in every sense of the word. When the call for men came during the World War, Dr. Womack, for past the military age, at once volunteered his service and was accepted. He was commissioned a captain and at first stationed at Camp Oglethorpe, Georgia. He received training at several military camps. He was finally given orders for foreign service and received the commission of major. He was given charge of a company and was enroute to seaboard when a wire came for Dr. Womack to fall out and remain in America. His last examination revealed that he had a bad heart. He was soon mustered out of service, but he never regained his health. He in the truest sense made the supreme sacrifice for his country and was an outstanding patriot. Dr, Womack was a member of the Methodist Church. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He died on Huly 22, 1932, at his home in Edna, Texas.
